Qixi lovers' festival

The Qixi Festival ,which is based on the tale of two young lover,Cowherd and Weaver Girl, forbidden to love and separated by a wide river ,the Milky Way ,has come to be regarded as China's own Valentine's Day .

The lovers only meet once a year on the seventh day of the seventh lunar calendar ,this year falling on August 7, 2019 .

The two young lovers were separated by a goddess and turned into stars,Altair and Vega , banished to opposite sides of the Milky Way .But on one night each year ,when the stars are at the closest point to each other ,the tale says the two lovers can cross the river and be reunited.

Since Qixi is traditionally a women's festival ,young girls would make Qiao guo,thin fried pastries made from flour and sugar syrup. In a number of Chinese cities ,young couples get married in a joint wedding ceremony on this day .

The Qinxi Festival express the traditional values of love in China that lovers should live to a ripe age together and be faithful to each other no matter what difficulties they encounter .
